Lymphedema and Radiation

Postby AzDarleen » Mon Sep 24, 2007 1:07 am

Hi there all, well here I am again, I just found out my breast cancer is back and I started radiation last monday, have to have 7 weeks everyday of treatment. I have LE in right arm, chest and back, and it seem the radiation is making it worse in the chest (its the same side they are doing) any ideas??? I chave to watch how much fluid I more cause I also have Congestive Herat failure from the chemo (fun fun) .
So far my skin is looking OK but I'm afraid when it starts to be red, will I have a problem with infection??? Is there anyone else out there that has been though this? Please help.
Thanks
Darleen :(

Hey Darlene

Sooooo very sorry to hear the the BC is back

Just know our prayers and thoughts go with you :!: :!: :!:

The radiation will do a number on your skin (I had eight weeks of it once) so it is going to be incredibly important to take extra care, use lotion and do all you can to nourish it.

I would highly recommend a good long talk with your therapist to see know only what can be done in your situation with the skin radiation problem, but also if it might be worthwhile to have some type of MLD during the treatment.

It gets really critical too when you mention the CHF.

I don't have that, but do have extensive lung fluid from the lymphoma. Its so bad that I don't even dare wear arm garments, sleeves or the like.
Tried it once and within a few minutes, I was literally unable to breathe.

Here's to the best for you :!: :!: :!:

Super hug your way too

I would also recommend working closely with a lymphedema specialist and if you start swelling see if you can stop treatment. How did you first develop lymphedema? I am a two time bc survivor.
